In a significant move in the NRL, Terrell May has officially departed from the Sydney Roosters to sign a three-year deal with the Wests Tigers. This development comes after the Roosters granted May an early release from his contract, paving the way for the promising forward to join the Tigers starting from the 2024 season.

May, who has been with the Roosters since 2022, emerged as a reliable and hard-working prop in the NRL. Known for his strong carries, defensive resilience, and work ethic on the field, the 24-year-old was a key part of the Roosters’ forward rotation. However, with limited opportunities for a starting role at the Roosters due to a packed roster of established forwards, May sought a fresh start to further his development and secure more consistent game time.

The Wests Tigers have been actively rebuilding their squad under coach Benji Marshall, and May’s signing is seen as a strategic move to bolster their forward pack. The Tigers endured a challenging 2023 season, finishing at the bottom of the ladder, but they have been aggressive in the player market, targeting young, dynamic talents who can help turn their fortunes around.

In a statement, May expressed his gratitude to the Sydney Roosters for the opportunity to play at the highest level and his excitement for the next chapter of his career.

“I want to thank the Roosters for everything they’ve done for me. They gave me my debut and helped me grow as a player and a person. I’ve learned so much during my time there, and I’ll always cherish the memories and friendships I’ve made,” May said. “That being said, I’m really looking forward to joining the Wests Tigers. It’s a new challenge and an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that’s building something special. I can’t wait to get started and give my best for the club and its fans.”

Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall also shared his enthusiasm about May’s arrival, praising the young forward’s potential and what he brings to the team.

“Terrell is a talented player with a lot of upside, and we’re thrilled to have him on board for the next three years,” Marshall said. “He’s got the physicality and skills we need in our pack, but more importantly, he has the hunger and drive to succeed. We’re confident he’ll make a big impact for us on and off the field.”

The Roosters, in their announcement of May’s departure, wished him well for the future and acknowledged his contributions to the club.

“Terrell has been a valued member of our squad, and while we’re sad to see him go, we understand his desire for a new opportunity,” Roosters head coach Trent Robinson said. “We thank Terrell for his commitment and hard work during his time with us and wish him all the best at the Wests Tigers.”

May’s signing adds depth and versatility to the Tigers’ forward pack, with the club hoping his inclusion will bring greater competition for spots and improve their overall performance. His ability to play in multiple forward positions is expected to provide Marshall with flexibility in team selection.

For the Tigers’ fans, this signing is another reason to be optimistic about the future. With several new recruits and the guidance of Marshall, who is in his first full year as head coach, the club is aiming to rise from its recent struggles and reestablish itself as a competitive force in the NRL.

The move marks a new chapter in May’s career and represents another step in the Tigers’ ambitious rebuild. As the 2024 season approaches, all eyes will be on how the young forward adapts to his new environment and helps the Tigers strive for success in the coming years.
