Tuscaloosa, AL – December 27, 2024 – The National Football Foundation (NFF) has announced the winner of the prestigious William V. Campbell Trophy, and Alabama Crimson Tide player, Alex Morton, has taken home the esteemed honor.

The William V. Campbell Trophy, often referred to as the “Academic Heisman,” is awarded annually to the nation’s top scholar-athlete. The trophy recognizes an individual’s outstanding academic achievement, athletic accomplishment, and community service.

Morton, a senior defensive lineman, has exemplified excellence in all three areas. He boasts a 3.85 GPA in mechanical engineering, has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll multiple times, and has been a key contributor to the Crimson Tide’s defensive unit.

“Alex is an exceptional individual who embodies the values of the William V. Campbell Trophy,” said Alabama head coach, Nick Saban. “His dedication to academic excellence, athletic achievement, and community service is truly inspiring, and we are proud to have him represent our program.”

Morton’s academic achievements are matched by his impressive athletic accomplishments. A two-time All-SEC selection, he has started in 36 consecutive games for the Crimson Tide and has recorded 122 tackles, including 25 for loss, and 10 sacks.

In addition to his academic and athletic prowess, Morton has also demonstrated a strong commitment to community service. He has volunteered at local food banks, participated in youth football camps, and has been an active member of the Alabama Athletes Outreach program.

“Alex is a shining example of what it means to be a student-athlete,” said NFF President and CEO, Steve Hatchell. “His dedication to academic excellence, athletic achievement, and community service makes him an ideal recipient of the William V. Campbell Trophy.”

As the winner of the William V. Campbell Trophy, Morton will receive a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship and will be honored at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner in New York City on December 10.

The Alabama Crimson Tide football program has a long history of producing outstanding scholar-athletes, and Morton’s recognition as the William V. Campbell Trophy winner is a testament to the program’s commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
