DODGERS SHOCK FANS WITH BLOCKBUSTER TRADE: DIEGO CARTAYA SHIPPED TO… see… more
Los Angeles, CA – In a move that has left many in the baseball world stunned, the Los Angeles Dodgers have traded highly touted prospect Diego Cartaya to the Minnesota Twins.
The trade, which was announced on Thursday, sends Cartaya, a 21-year-old catcher, to the Twins in exchange for minor league pitcher Jose Vasquez.
Cartaya, who was signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent in 2018, has been considered one of the top prospects in the organization. He has been praised for his strong defensive skills behind the plate, as well as his impressive power at the plate.
Despite his promising future, the Dodgers have apparently decided that Cartaya is expendable. The team has a deep pool of talented young catchers, including Will Smith and Dalton Rushing, which may have made Cartaya’s departure more palatable.
“We’re excited to add Jose Vasquez to our organization,” said Dodgers General Manager Brandon Gomes. “We believe he has the potential to be a valuable contributor to our pitching staff in the future.”
Vasquez, a 22-year-old right-hander, has pitched in the Twins’ minor league system for the past three seasons. He has a 3.45 ERA and 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings in his minor league career.
While the addition of Vasquez is certainly a positive one for the Dodgers, the trade of Cartaya is a surprising move that has left many fans scratching their heads.
“Diego Cartaya was one of our top prospects, and it’s surprising to see him go,” said Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts. “However, we trust our scouting department and our front office to make the right decisions for the organization.”
The trade of Cartaya is a clear indication that the Dodgers are committed to winning now, and are willing to part with talented young players in order to achieve that goal.
As for Cartaya, he will now have the opportunity to develop with the Twins, who have a strong track record of developing young players.
“I’m excited to join the Twins organization and start this new chapter in my career,” said Cartaya. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to play for such a great team and can’t wait to get started.”
