San Antonio, TX – BYU head coach Kalani Sitake capped off an impressive 2024 season with a dominating 36-14 win over Colorado in the Alamo Bowl. The victory marked the Cougars’ 11th win of the season, a testament to Sitake’s leadership and the team’s hard work and dedication.
Sitake, who is in his eighth season as BYU’s head coach, has consistently demonstrated his ability to lead the Cougars to success. This season was no exception, as BYU finished with an 11-2 record, including a 7-1 mark in the Big 12.
“I’m so proud of our team and the way they’ve performed all season,” Sitake said in a post-game interview. “We’ve faced some tough challenges and adversity, but our guys have always responded with resilience and determination. This win is a testament to their hard work and commitment to excellence.”
The Cougars’ victory over Colorado was a decisive one, with BYU dominating the Buffaloes in all phases of the game. The Cougars’ offense, led by quarterback Jake Retzlaff, racked up 433 total yards, including 151 yards through the air and 282 yards on the ground.
BYU’s defense was equally impressive, holding Colorado to just 262 total yards and forcing three turnovers. The Cougars’ defensive line was particularly dominant, sacking Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders four times and limiting the Buffaloes to just 43 rushing yards.
The win marked a triumphant end to the season for BYU, which will look to build on this momentum in the offseason. With Sitake at the helm, the Cougars are poised to continue their success in the years to come.
“Kalani Sitake is an outstanding coach and an even better person,” said BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe. “He’s done a phenomenal job leading our program and inspiring our student-athletes to achieve greatness. We’re grateful to have him as our head coach and look forward to seeing what the future holds for our program.”
As the Cougars celebrate their impressive season, they’ll also be saying goodbye to several key players who will be moving on to the next level. However, with Sitake’s leadership and a talented young core of players, BYU is well-positioned to continue its success in the years to come.
