Provo, UT – BYU men’s basketball coach Kelvin Young is calling on his star guards to step up their game as the Cougars look to bounce back from a tough loss to Houston.

Egor Demin and Dallin Hall, BYU’s starting guard duo, have been struggling lately, and Young is looking for them to find their rhythm on the court.

“I think our guards have been a little hesitant, a little unsure of themselves,” Young said. “We need them to play more instinctively, to trust their training and their abilities. When they do that, they’re very effective.”

Demin, a junior from Russia, has been averaging 12.5 points per game, but has struggled with his shot, hitting just 38% from the field. Hall, a sophomore from Idaho, has been averaging 10.8 points per game, but has had trouble finding his range, shooting just 29% from three-point territory.

Young believes that both Demin and Hall have the talent and ability to be dominant players, but they need to develop more consistency and confidence.

“We’ve been working with them on their shot selection, on being more aggressive and taking the ball to the basket,” Young said. “We need them to be more assertive, to take charge and lead our team.”

The Cougars have been relying heavily on their guards to provide scoring and playmaking, but they’ve been inconsistent, leading to some tough losses.

“We’ve had some ups and downs this season, but I’m confident that our guards can turn it around,” Young said. “They’ve shown flashes of brilliance, and we need them to sustain that level of play over the course of a game.”

BYU’s next game is against Texas Tech, a crucial Quad One matchup that could have significant implications for the Cougars’ NCAA Tournament hopes.

“We need our guards to come out and set the tone for us,” Young said. “If they can do that, I’m confident that we can come out with a win.”

The Cougars are looking to bounce back from a tough loss to Houston, and they’ll need their star guards to lead the way. With Demin and Hall playing at a high level, BYU could be a formidable opponent in the Big 12 Conference.
