TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A new chapter in Alabama football history begins as the University of Alabama Athletics officially announces its 2025 coaching staff, headlined by Kalen DeBoer as the Crimson Tide’s new head coach. DeBoer, widely respected for his offensive innovation and program-building success, steps into one of the most prestigious coaching roles in college football.

Joining him is defensive mastermind Kane Wommack, who takes over as Defensive Coordinator, and Nick Sheridan, who will serve as Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach. With this new leadership, Alabama looks to continue its dominance on the national stage while implementing fresh strategies on both sides of the ball.

DeBoer’s Ascent to Alabama’s Helm

Kalen DeBoer’s rise in the coaching ranks has been nothing short of impressive. Previously the head coach at Washington, DeBoer led the Huskies to a national championship appearance in 2024, showcasing an explosive offense and disciplined team culture. His success in the Pac-12 and his ability to develop quarterbacks made him a top candidate for the Alabama job.

Taking over for legendary coach Nick Saban, DeBoer inherits a program that has defined excellence in college football for over a decade. Though filling Saban’s shoes is a tall task, DeBoer’s proven ability to maximize talent and adapt his schemes make him a compelling choice to lead the Tide into a new era.

“I am honored to be the head coach of Alabama football,” DeBoer said in his introductory statement. “This program represents the highest standard in college football, and I am excited to build upon its incredible tradition. Our coaching staff is ready to compete for championships and uphold the Crimson Tide legacy.”

Kane Wommack: A Defensive Visionary

Defense has long been a cornerstone of Alabama football, and Kane Wommack brings a fresh yet familiar approach to the Tide’s defensive unit. Wommack, who previously served as the head coach at South Alabama, is known for his aggressive defensive schemes and player development.

Before leading South Alabama, Wommack gained recognition as a defensive coordinator at Indiana, where his innovative strategies helped transform the Hoosiers into a formidable defensive unit. His experience in both leading a program and scheming against high-powered offenses will be critical as Alabama transitions under new leadership.

Nick Sheridan: Guiding the Tide’s Offense and QBs

Nick Sheridan, Alabama’s new Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach, reunites with DeBoer after working together at Indiana. Sheridan’s ability to develop quarterbacks and craft efficient offensive game plans will be key in Alabama’s offensive evolution.

Sheridan previously served as the tight ends coach at Washington under DeBoer, playing a role in the Huskies’ high-powered attack. His familiarity with DeBoer’s system ensures a smooth transition for Alabama’s offense, with an emphasis on explosive plays and quarterback development.

A New Era, Same Expectations

Alabama fans have grown accustomed to championship expectations, and the new coaching staff understands the high stakes of leading the Crimson Tide. While changes in leadership bring inevitable adjustments, DeBoer, Wommack, and Sheridan each bring a track record of success and adaptability.

As the Crimson Tide prepare for the 2025 season, all eyes will be on how this new coaching staff molds the next generation of Alabama football stars. Will DeBoer’s offensive genius, Wommack’s defensive schemes, and Sheridan’s quarterback expertise be the perfect combination to keep Alabama at the top of college football?

One thing is certain—Tuscaloosa isn’t planning on slowing down anytime soon.
