Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has expressed his confidence in running back Jahmyr Gibbs, following the season-ending knee surgery of starter David Montgomery. Campbell’s comments came during a press conference, where he was asked about the team’s plans to replace Montgomery.
“I’ve got a lot of confidence in Jahmyr,” Campbell said. “He’s shown us what he’s capable of, and we’re excited to see him get more opportunities. He’s a talented back who can do it all – run, catch, and block. We’re looking forward to seeing him take on a bigger role.”
Gibbs, a rookie running back from Alabama, has impressed coaches and teammates with his speed, agility, and vision on the field. Despite being a backup to Montgomery, Gibbs has seen significant playing time, rushing for over 300 yards and catching 20 passes.
Campbell’s confidence in Gibbs is not surprising, given the rookie’s impressive performance in previous games without Montgomery. In a Week 10 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, Gibbs rushed for 64 yards and caught 5 passes, helping the Lions secure a 31-24 victory.
“Jahmyr’s got a lot of heart, and he’s a tough kid,” Campbell said. “He’s got a lot of confidence in himself, and that’s infectious. We’re excited to see him take on this new role and make the most of his opportunities.”
The Lions’ coaching staff has been working with Gibbs to prepare him for his new role, and Campbell is confident that the rookie is ready for the challenge.
“We’ve been working with Jahmyr to make sure he’s prepared for this opportunity,” Campbell said. “He’s been studying hard, and he’s been working on his technique. We’re confident that he’s going to do a great job for us.”
With Gibbs set to take on a bigger role, the Lions are looking to make a push for the playoffs. Despite a tough schedule ahead, Campbell is confident that his team has what it takes to succeed.
“We’ve got a tough road ahead of us, but we’re up for the challenge,” Campbell said. “We’ve got a talented team, and we’re confident that we can make a run. We’re excited to see what the future holds.”
