LIONS’ SEASON ENDS IN SHOCKING FASHION: DAN CAMPBELL LEFT “SICK TO MY STOMACH” AFTER… see… more
Detroit, MI – The Detroit Lions’ magical season came to a stunning end on Saturday, as they fell to the Washington Commanders 45-31 in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell was visibly shaken in his post-game press conference, struggling to put into words the emotions that were swirling inside of him.
“I’m sick to my stomach,” Campbell said, his voice cracking with emotion. “I’m disappointed. I’m frustrated. I’m angry. I’m all of those things, because I know we’re better than that.”
The Lions had been riding high after winning the NFC North division title and earning the number one seed in the NFC playoffs. But on Saturday, they were outplayed and out coached by the Commanders, who dominated the game from start to finish.
“We didn’t play well enough to win,” Campbell said. “We didn’t coach well enough to win. We didn’t execute well enough to win. It’s as simple as that.”
Campbell was particularly disappointed in his team’s defensive performance, which allowed the Commanders to rack up 45 points and over 500 yards of total offense.
“We couldn’t stop them,” Campbell said. “We couldn’t get off the field on third down. We couldn’t tackle. We couldn’t cover. It was a complete breakdown on defense.”
Despite the disappointing loss, Campbell was proud of his team’s resilience and determination. The Lions fought hard until the very end, but ultimately came up short.
“I love this team,” Campbell said. “I love the way they fight. I love the way they compete. We just didn’t have enough today.”
As the Lions begin to look ahead to next season, Campbell knows that there will be plenty of lessons to learn from this disappointing loss.
“We’ll learn from this,” Campbell said. “We’ll grow from this. We’ll come back stronger and more determined than ever.”
But for now, the sting of defeat will linger. Campbell and the Lions will have to live with the knowledge that their season ended in shocking fashion, and that they fell short of their ultimate goal.
“It’s tough to swallow,” Campbell said. “But we’ll swallow it. We’ll learn from it. And we’ll come back stronger.”
