In a move that is set to shake up the NFL, the Detroit Lions have agreed to hire Denver Broncos assistant John Morton as their new offensive coordinator. This bold move is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the Lions’ offense, which has been inconsistent in recent years.

Morton, who has spent the past two seasons as the Broncos’ wide receivers coach, is widely regarded as one of the top young coaches in the NFL. He has a reputation for being innovative and creative, and is expected to bring a new level of excitement to the Lions’ offense.

“John is a talented coach who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our staff,” said Lions head coach Dan Campbell. “We’re thrilled to have him on board and are confident that he’ll help us take our offense to the next level.”

In addition to hiring Morton, the Lions have also promoted Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator. Sheppard, who has spent the past two seasons as the Lions’ linebackers coach, is a highly respected coach who has a deep understanding of the team’s defensive scheme.

“Kelvin is a bright and talented coach who has earned the respect of our players and staff,” said Campbell. “We’re confident that he’ll do a great job leading our defense and helping us achieve our goals.”

The hiring of Morton and promotion of Sheppard are just the latest moves in what has been a busy off season for the Lions. The team has also made several key signings in free agency, including the addition of former Broncos safety Justin Simmons.

As the Lions prepare to head into the 2025 season, they do so with a renewed sense of optimism and excitement. With a talented young core of players and a coaching staff that is loaded with experience and expertise, the team is poised to make a deep run in the playoffs.
