Detroit, MI – The Detroit Lions are facing a potential coaching crisis as two of their top assistants, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, are drawing significant interest from multiple teams for head coaching positions.
According to sources, Glenn and Johnson have both been contacted by teams with head coaching vacancies, and it’s possible that one or both could be leaving the Lions in the near future.
Glenn, who has been the Lions’ defensive coordinator since 2021, has been instrumental in transforming the team’s defense into one of the most improved units in the NFL. His experience and expertise have made him a hot commodity on the coaching market, with multiple teams reportedly interested in interviewing him for their head coaching positions.
Johnson, on the other hand, has been the Lions’ offensive coordinator since 2022 and has played a key role in the development of quarterback Jared Goff. His innovative approach to offense and ability to adapt to different personnel have made him a sought-after candidate for head coaching positions.
While the Lions are eager to retain both Glenn and Johnson, it’s unclear whether they will be able to keep them on staff. If one or both were to leave, it would be a significant blow to the team’s coaching staff and could potentially impact their on-field performance.
“Aaron and Ben are both outstanding coaches who have been instrumental in our team’s success,” said Lions head coach Dan Campbell. “We’re eager to keep them on staff, but we also understand that they have aspirations to become head coaches. We’ll do everything we can to support them in their career goals.”
The potential loss of Glenn and Johnson would be a significant challenge for the Lions, who are looking to build on their success from last season. However, the team is confident that they have a strong coaching staff in place and are well-equipped to handle any potential changes.
“We have a deep and talented coaching staff, and we’re confident that we can adapt to any changes that may come our way,” said Campbell. “Our focus is on continuing to build a winning culture here in Detroit, and we’re excited to see what the future holds.”
