The Detroit Lions have long been a beloved institution in the Motor City, with a rich history of excitement and entertainment on the gridiron. But the team’s impact extends far beyond the confines of Ford Field, and today, the Lions are proud to announce the launch of the Detroit Lions Foundation.
This new initiative is dedicated to supporting and empowering the Detroit community, with a focus on growing the game of football, promoting healthy lifestyles, and providing support for those in need.
“We are thrilled to launch the Detroit Lions Foundation, which will allow us to deepen our connection with the Detroit community and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our fans,” said Detroit Lions Principal Owner Sheila Hamp. “This foundation is a natural extension of our team’s values and commitment to giving back.”
The Detroit Lions Foundation will focus on three key areas:
1.Growing the Game : The foundation will support youth football initiatives, providing resources and opportunities for young athletes to develop their skills and pursue their passion for the sport.
2.Healthy Lifestyles : The foundation will promote healthy lifestyles and wellness initiatives, partnering with local organizations to provide education, resources, and support for healthy living.
3.Community Support : The foundation will provide support for those in need, partnering with local non-profits and organizations to address issues such as food insecurity, education, and economic empowerment.
The Detroit Lions Foundation will be led by a board of directors, including Lions’ executives, players, and community leaders. The foundation will also establish a community advisory board, comprising local stakeholders and experts who will provide guidance and insight on the foundation’s initiatives.
“We are committed to making a positive impact in the Detroit community, and the launch of the Detroit Lions Foundation is a major step forward in achieving that goal,” said Detroit Lions President and CEO Rod Wood. “We look forward to working with our fans, partners, and community leaders to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.”
The Detroit Lions Foundation will announce its first round of grants and initiatives in the coming weeks, and will be hosting a launch event later this spring to celebrate its official kickoff.
