In a surprise move, Iron Maiden has announced that former drummer Clive Burr’s nephew, Chris Burr, will be joining the band as their new touring drummer. This decision comes after longtime drummer Nicko McBrain announced his retirement from touring due to health concerns.

According to a statement released by the band, Chris Burr has been rehearsing with Iron Maiden for several weeks and has already performed with the band during a series of private shows.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chris Burr to the Iron Maiden family,” said bassist and founding member Steve Harris. “Chris is an incredibly talented drummer who has a deep understanding of our music and style. We are confident that he will be a great addition to the band and will help us to continue delivering the high-energy live performances that our fans have come to expect from us.”

Chris Burr, who has previously played with a number of bands, including a tribute act called “Maiden England,” said that he is “honored and excited” to be joining Iron Maiden.

“I’ve been a huge fan of the band for as long as I can remember, and to be given the opportunity to play with them is a dream come true,” Burr said. “I’m looking forward to getting out on the road and performing with the band. It’s going to be an incredible experience.”

Nicko McBrain, who has been Iron Maiden’s drummer for over 40 years, announced his retirement from touring earlier this year due to health concerns. While McBrain will no longer be touring with the band, he will continue to be involved with Iron Maiden in other capacities.

“Nicko has been an integral part of Iron Maiden for decades, and we are going to miss him greatly,” said Harris. “However, we are also excited to welcome Chris Burr to the band and to see the energy and enthusiasm that he will bring to our live performances.”

Iron Maiden is set to embark on a new tour in the coming months, with Chris Burr behind the drums.
